Pedal the Peninsula! The top 3 cycling routes in Queenscliff
Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula and its surrounds ooze beauty, and one of the best ways to absorb it all is along a cycling trail.
Paths abound in these parts. So, to steer you in the right direction the team at BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Queenscliff Beacon has nominated its top three cycling tracks on the Bellarine Peninsula.
It’s time to get on your bike…
1. Queenscliff to Barwon Heads Loop
The Queenscliff to Barwon Heads Loop is a 42km road ride that will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery on the Bellarine Peninsula. This includes stunning coastal views all the way from Ocean Grove to Barwon Heads Bluff that you will enjoy from the comfort of your bike.
2. Queenscliff to Geelong via the Rail Trail
The Bellarine Rail Trail is a 35km path that links Queenscliff to South Geelong, following the alignment of the historical Geelong-Queenscliff railway line.
The trail is primarily constructed of compacted, crushed rock and provides a high-quality surface suitable for all bikes other than those fitted with racing tyres.
The trail is popular with weekend recreational cyclists, as the 35km length (one way) makes for a decent ride with the bonus of excellent views of the surrounding farmland and coast.
3. Queenscliff to Point Nepean (via ferry)
The Queenscliff to Point Nepean ride is a 33km return journey and includes a ferry crossing from the Bellarine Peninsula to the Mornington Peninsula and back.
The ride from Sorrento to Point Nepean is 22km return and takes in some of the most breathtaking scenery along the way. Cycling is permitted in Point Nepean Nature Reserve, the Quarantine Station, along Defence Road (to Fort Pearce) and along Coles Track, which is a shared path.
