Huggins Lookout

This is an excellent position to admire the stunning scenery of Bright and beyond. In autumn, the extent of the area’s astonishing colour palette is easily admired from here. The lookout is reached via vehicle or foot and is one of several popular viewing spots in these surrounds.

Bright Splash Park

This free aquatic attraction overflows with fun-filled features that appeal to kids of all ages. It’s a highlight of Centenary Park, located on the banks of the Ovens River, which includes BBQs, a playground, and other amenities. Alternatively, Howitt Park holds a beautiful riverside positioning and makes a pleasant picnic setting.

A few wineries are dotted around Bright, delivering tasty cool-climate varieties. Billy Button has cellar doors in both Bright and Myrtleford, Ringer Reef in Porepunkah is a must-visit, or enjoy the Tuscan villa vibe of Michelini Wines in Myrtleford.

Cycling tracks in Bright

Cycling in Bright is highly rewarding for all levels. Road cycling and mountain-biking trails are easily at hand, coupled with plenty of opportunity for cycle hire – including electric bikes – and organised tours.

One of the most popular tracks is the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail, a scenic sealed path that links Bright with various destinations such as Porepunkah, Myrtleford, Beechworth, and Wangaratta. The simple hop-on, hop-off nature of the trail allows for easy exploration of these character-filled towns.

Equally, pavement pounders are effortlessly inspired in these glorious surrounds. A network of variable paths showcases captivating scenery, including valleys, rivers, and historical remnants. Highlights included the Canyon Trail and Cherry Walk, both medium-graded 5km tracks, and the 1.6km-long Riverside Walk in nearby Harrietville.

Must-visit attractions near Bright, VIC

Harrietville

This old-gold village is in the shadows of Mt Feathertop and pours on the charm with its blend of beautiful scenery, including pretty parks. Like much of region, autumn is the peak season for visual delights here.

Mt Buffalo National Park

Jaw-dropping scenery bursts from this much-loved national park, best explored on its 90km network of walking trails. Witness waterfalls, wildlife, and wildflowers in season. Breathtaking vistas stretch far and wide: The Horn summit and Echo Point Lookout are among many excellent vantage points.

Distance: 35km west of Bright.

Beechworth

Another historical gold-mining town in these parts, Beechworth is dotted with striking heritage buildings. A cluster of prized cafés and restaurants and two breweries, including acclaimed Bridge Road Brewers, make this an essential daytrip from Bright. The nearby picturesque village of Yackandandah is well worth checking out, too.

King Valley

Continue the palate-pleasing High Country adventures with a visit to this renowned food and wine region. Wineries with a distinct Italian influence are sprinkled throughout the dazzling surrounds: a tour along so-called Prosecco Road is a must. It combines with a feast of delicious local produce, centred around the Milawa Gourmet Region

Alpine National Park

Victoria’s biggest national park is a gem, home to towering peaks, premier ski fields, river valleys, and so much more. It includes the state’s two highest peaks, Mt Bogong and Mt Feathertop: the latter home to the iconic Razorback walking trail. While best-known for its snow fun in cooler months, the park has absolute appeal year round and invites all manner of recreation and adventure.

Random fact

Despite seeming an apt name considering its breathtaking beauty and seasonal profusion of colours, Bright is in fact named after a British MP. Before that, the town was known as Morse’s Creek.
