The Place to Be: Dandenong Town Hall

Exhibitions and Shows

For 135 years, the historic Dandenong Town Hall, now the beloved Drum Theatre, has stood as the beating heart of the community.

From its uncertain beginnings in 1890, it has been a stage for every chapter of local life: where futures were debated, where young soldiers were farewelled, where new Australians found their place, and where music, dance and celebration echoed through the walls.

In times of disaster, it offered shelter; in time of need, it inspired hope.

This special exhibition invites you to journey through its rich history - exploring photographs, stories, fashion and memories - and to celebrate how this remarkable building continues to evolve as Dandenong's home for cultural and connection.

This exhibition is presented across two sites, Benga House (Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens) and Drum Theatre. Heritage Hill Museum and Arts Centre will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays, while Drum Theatre is open Monday to Friday.

This exhibition is a collaboration between Dandenong and District Historical Society Inc. and the City of Greater Dandenong.
