While Port Arthur Historic Site is the most significant of seven convict stations on the Peninsula, and once housed the most hardened convicts, other sites such as the Coal Mines also have a compelling atmosphere.

At Eaglehawk Neck, the narrow isthmus that in yesteryear was guarded by vicious dogs to prevent convict escapes, is now a popular holiday area. Eye-catching scenery along the way is a bonus.
