Toowoomba & Golden West

A wealth of first-rate attractions is on offer within the Toowoomba and Golden West region.

Toowoomba will quickly catch your gaze. It earns the tag of ‘Garden City’ owing to 150-plus public parks and gardens that cloak the landscape with colour. Picnic Point lookout, the Japanese Garden, and the State Rose Garden in Newtown Park are popular spots.
 
For a historical and cultural fix, try the Cobb & Co Museum, the Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre, and Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery.

The surrounding Darling Downs area has a sprinkling of townships that throw up plenty of surprises. Jondaryan is home to Queensland's oldest-operating woolshed, the Pioneer Historical Village at Pittsworth is comprehensive, and Spring Bluff lures many visitors to view its railway station.

Further south, Warwick allows glimpses into its riveting past. Admire outstanding old buildings by grabbing a ‘Heritage and Historic Building Trails’ brochure from the visitor centre, then stop by the Warwick Historical Society Museum and the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre.

Warwick is a good base for exploring the profusion of beauty within Main Range National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Queen Mary Falls is a standout feature.

There are dozens of cellar doors in the renowned Granite Belt wine region, which centres on the town of Stanthorpe. Its delicious produce and rich art and craft scene create more appeal. Easily reached from Stanthorpe is Girraween National Park, which contains funky boulders and bright seasonal wildflowers.

Further west, Goondiwindi has fascinating museums and galleries to check out. The Gunsynd Museum, which pays tribute to its famous racehorse, is a prized addition.
