Tathra Beach
Natural Attractions
Tathra Beach is a stunning sandy beach in the heart of Tathra, stretching north to Mogareeka Inlet and pristine Mimosa Rocks National Park.
Migrating whales always pop in, the bay is home to many seabirds such as the endangered Little Tern, and there's an abundance of wallabies and kangaroos who love to visit the beach in the mornings.
The beach meanders three kilometres along the shoreline and is protected from southerly winds, making it great for surf, board riding and sailboarding.
There are beach wheelchairs with floats available from the surf club, and fully accessible accommodation nearby. An all-abilities playground features within the park right next to the beach, so it truly is fun for all.
The Tathra Surf Life Saving Club has been in operation for over 100 years and is key to some major events including the biennial George Bass Marathon and the Tathra Wharf to Waves ocean swim event.
At the northern end of the beach, Mogareeka Inlet provides sheltered swimming, paddling and fishing at the mouth of Bega River.
There are countless opportunities for adventure in the hills that surround the town with over 55 kilometres of expert-built, single-track mountain bike trails, and the Kangarutha Track is an excellent coastal challenge.
