Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum
Galleries, Museums and Collections
One man’s passion is today one of Bathurst’s greatest treasures.
The Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, housed in the 1876 Gothic-style former public-school building in the historic Bathurst Town Square precinct, is the home of the internationally renowned Somerville Collection, the lifetime work of Warren Somerville AM.
The collection features some of the finest and rarest specimens of mineral crystals and fossils from around the world. Containing more than 5,000 objects, the collection is presented together to give a stronger understanding of the development of life on Earth.
The centrepiece is a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton; other drawcards include the large collection of fossils in amber and Australian opalised fossils.
